Gay Rights In Ireland

Ireland has one of the most thriving gay communities in Europe but is quite restricted in it's gay civil rights.

Gay rights was only officially decriminalised in 1993, and full anti-discrimination laws were only put in place in 2000.

I think this is largely to do the with fact that 86.8% of people living in Ireland consider themselves Roman Catholic. Even in the Irish constitution it recognises the 'special place' of the Roman Catholic church.

Regardless of the econmic boom that Ireland has enjoyed until recently, Ireland still holds very old fasioned ideals

Intro

Hello, the next few blogs posted are going to be a product of a geography course project I am doing in school. The is that we pick any geography topic of our interest and write blogs with information on the subject. I have chosen to do my on the geography on gay rights and law. As one might guess, I am part of the gay community, so this topic interests me. I plan to pick specific countries and talk about legislation, cultrural veiws, anti-discrimination laws and whatever information I can get my hands on! Enjoy!
